What is Google AdSense
Google AdSense is an advertising program that enables website owners to earn revenue by displaying targeted ads on their sites. Advertisers bid to show their ads through Google Ads, and AdSense matches relevant ads to site owner’s content. Website owners get paid per click or impression, making it a popular choice for monetizing web traffic.

Who is Eligible for Google AdSense
Gooogle Adsense as we know is the biggest advertising program that allows website owners, bloggers, and Youtube creators to monetize their content by displaying ads on their platforms. Those who are eligible for this Adsense approval is anyone who is….
- Of age: This is a very crucial eligibility factor, you have to be at least eighteen to be able to apply for Google ads. Though you can still use AdSense if you’re younger, your parent or legal guardian’s name needs to be on the account.
- A website or blog owner: Before applying for Google monetization you need to own a website, blog, or YouTube channel with original content. Your content MUST comply with Google’s AdSense program policies.
- Ready to comply with Google’s policies: Take note I got rejected 9 times by Google because my site wasn’t in compliance with their policies. Therefore to be eligible for AdSense approval you must be ready to comply with their policies.
How I got my Google AdSense Approval
During my efforts to get my website, Inkwrit, approved for Google AdSense, I came across an article that highlighted the increasing difficulty of getting approved. The author noted that the process has become significantly more challenging than it was 10 years ago which made me anxious. A recent response on Quora Yes, my understanding is the “decline” rate is 95 to 96% seems to confirm this.
How did I scale the hurdles and get my site approved even with the high rate of Google’s declining websites, here are the steps I took:
- Google raters: Who are Google raters? These are employees of Google, their job is to rate all sites applying for Google AdSense approval. The first time I heard of them, I knew this was one of the core problems my site was having. For your website or blog to be approved it has to be 100% unique to these raters. They receive a large number of websites a day, so they are well-trained to detect a site that has low-quality content. Knowing about the Google raters helped me to change my content and tailor it to meet their standard.
- Niche organization: Another aspect I had to work on was my niche, immediately I learned about niche organization, I made swift corrections. What is a niche organization? This ensures that what you’re talking about is related or closely related. For example, my site is a platform where storytellers can come tell their stories and learn writing tips but I delved into relationships, sports, lifestyle, etc. which were not related. Having a well-organized niche (categories) helps to increase your users’ experience.
- Content Quality and Originality:
This is another area to consider, publishing quality content is a MUST, and you can’t bargain this. Likewise, the content should provide value to visitors. It should be well-organized, with easy navigation, and contain a sufficient amount of original text content. I was able to achieve this for my site by interviewing expert writers and sharing their tips on my site. Google frowns at duplicate or plagiarized content. What I also considered was to ensure that my contents were well-written, clear, and free of spelling or grammatical errors.
- Content Quantity:
This was one of the things I learned in my quest to get my website approved to show Google ads. The quantity of your content is divided into 3; you should write 600- 1200 preferably 2500 words per article and ensure you’ve typically written, 20-30 well-written posts or pages and about three categories to house these articles before sending your site down for approval. I made the mistake of submitting my site to Google without having enough content including categories and Google regards this as a low content site.
- Compliance:
Compliance is paramount, for Google AdSense approval, my site was getting rejected because it did not meet Google’s compliance policy. Google won’t specify which of their laws you’ve broken in their rejection emails, rather they will keep pointing you back to their policy and expect you to figure it out yourself.
As for my case, I discovered that the featured images for some of the stories were sexy, and some were repetitive without distinction which made the users confused. I had to get rid of those images and use different images for all content. Don’t publish things like adult content, violent, illegal, deceptive practices hate speech content, etc, and expect Google to get your website approved.
- Site Structure and Design:
Back then my site was overwhelming, and had poor user experience because it lacked goals and the navigational structure was not very clear. A friend pointed this out to me and I was able to curb this by creating a home page. My home page tells the users what to do and where to go when they pay a visit.
- Consistency:
Your site is been rated by Google specialists and machines, once I learned that they checked consistency, I never failed to post two articles every week till my website got monetized. You have to keep posting content on your site till it’s approved. Though writing articles or blog posts might be time-consuming and tedious however you don’t need to do this yourself. You can chat me up and we can figure out how I can help you handle this task. Let’s chat!
- Traffic and Engagement: Google didn’t state that a site should be bubbling with huge traffic as a core requirement. However I knew I would be on the good side if I shared my articles consistently on my social media page. Don’t use bots to generate traffic I don’t know how that is done, but it’s not encouraging to use bots to generate traffic. Sharing your blog posts and articles on your social media page and Pinterest is all you need to get good traffic even if the number is small.
- Contact Information and About Page: Pages like About Us, Contact Us, privacy, terms and conditions, and disclaimer pages are very important to Google. If there is anything you must have in your checklist this should be it. I had to go through due diligence to create these pages the right way. I can help you in creating the right pages or go through what you already have if they meet the Google policy. Feel free to connect or email me, I’m just a button away.
- Language Requirements: Your content must be in one of the languages supported by Google AdSense. This is very important, I had to select the languages that were supported by Google on the AdSense account dashboard. You can access this feature around where you set your GDPR compliance.
- Ads.txt: This is code you’re expected paste in the root of your website. It shows google you own the website or blog. You can’t skip this process, and to be able to do this, you need a plugin called ads.txt manager.
