Something exciting happened in 1st King 21, it was an account of Ahab and Naboth’s vineyard.

Surprisingly I can’t say if I have ever understood this story the way I do now.

But we bless God who gives us understanding.

So what exactly happened between these people of old, Ahab, Naboth, and Jezebel?

So to answer this question we need to know brief things about our personalities.

Ahab was the king of Samaria, and at the same time, the husband to the notorious Jezebel.

While on the other hand, Naboth was a humble citizen living in the land of Jezreel.

I found this story important for two reasons:

1. It carries a spiritual undertone that we believers need to learn.

2. Believers need to hear about this undertone.

Believe me when I say that Ahab and Naboth’s vineyard had a spiritual side and today I’ll be exploring it in this article.

Untold Story of Naboth & Ahab & How it Helps You

Now let’s dive in…

Once upon a time, Ahab king of Samaria called Naboth, who had a vineyard that was close to his palace. Ahab told Naboth, to give him his vineyard so he could plant his herbs on it, and he will give him a vineyard from his vineyards that is better than Naboth’s or if Naboth insisted, he will give him money that is equivalent to the worth of his vineyard. But Naboth refuted saying that God forbid he sells his father’s inheritance.

This refusal did not sit well with King Ahab, because he went home feeling sad and refused to eat.

His actions drew the attention of his wife Jezebel the queen.

She came to him and asked him what was making him sad? And Ahab recounted his discussion with Naboth, stating that, he had asked him for his vineyard and Naboth refused.

Jezebel in a mocking manner, asked Ahab if was he not the king of Israel and there he encouraged him to eat and brighten up because she would give the vineyard to him.

Later on, Jezebel went ahead to write a letter to elders in Jezreel . This she did  using the king’s seal.

In her letter she instructed the elders to proclaim a fast and bring Naboth to the public accusing him of blasphemy the God of Israel and the king.

And likewise they should send the two sons of Belial to stand as witnesses against them.

Thereafter they should stone Naboth to death.

The elders obeyed, the command of Jezebel the wicked queen. They proclaimed a fast, took out Naboth and accused him of blasphemy the God of Israel and their king and set up the sons of Belial as their witnesses.

Therefore on this accusations Naboth was stoned to death just like Steven in the new testament was stoned to death by the Jews.

News came to Jezebel that they have killed Naboth according to her instructions.

Thus she went to king Ahab and asked him to go take the vineyard of Naboth for he is dead.

This wicked act of Jezebel and Ahab did not sit well with God.

So he sent Elijah the Tishbite and prophet to go and proclaim his judgement upon them.

Elijah did as he was sent thou it was recorded that Ahab felt sorry but the evil deed had already been done.

He knew his wife would carry that action against Naboth but he did nothing to stop it because he wanted Naboth’s vineyard so badly.

Now where and how does this story have an undertone of spirituality?

I’ll answer by saying that this story has a spiritual undertone based on these factors:

1. Ahab in this regard can represent Satan trying to steal from us and every day he makes this attempts. It’s either he is trying to steal our marriage, peace or job.

2. Ahab just like Satan does not want to see us prosper. Let’s say that vineyard was a means of lively hood to Naboth and if he gives it to Ahab what guarantee does he have that Ahab will act according to his words.

3. Jezebel just like Satan is always after our lives, he does not want to see us alive, well and happy.

4. Ahab and Jezebel as personalities and they are with us physically in our workplace, school, neighbor. And all they are thinking and scheming is how to steal from us and put us in perpetual sadness.

But the reality is that Christ has given us the victory over Satan so we don’t need to be afraid of his devices and schemes.

The weapons to keep him away are his word, prayer and faith.

When we put these into use we would surely overcome him(Satan )anytime and any day.

So I want to believe that with these few points of mine you’ve seen why I shared that Ahab and Naboth’s story has a spiritual undertone.

I want us to believe in God and what he can do for us as his children. But we must be aware of the devices of the enemy this is why the Bible said we should not be ignorant.

Now let’s say this short prayer: Lord Jesus we thank you for this word. We are happy and confident that you’re with us here on earth and no matter what is going on currently in this world we are, you’re here to protect us. We will not fall pry to the devices of the enemy Satan. And we want to thank you for making us victorious. Thank you for your mercy and presence over our lives. In Jesus name Amen.
