From Accra to Nairobi to Toronto: how Qrrier turns everyday African travellers into couriers

Ask anyone in our diaspora and they will tell you the same story. A cousin is flying out next week, so suddenly the whole family has parcels for him. Shito for an uncle in Toronto, a dress for a wedding in London, a phone charger someone forgot. It is a beautiful tradition, but it runs on goodwill, and goodwill does not pay for the extra bag.

Qrrier is an app built around that habit. It links people who want an item from abroad (shoppers), people who need to send something (shippers) and people who already have a seat booked (travellers). Every trip gets a price, every payment is protected, and nobody chases anybody for money afterwards.

A real example: AirTag 4-pack, New York to Accra

A trader in Osu wants Apple’s AirTag 4-pack to track her stock bags and the car keys her kids keep losing. In the United States it costs $99. In Accra, Compuville and Apple Palace list it around GH₵1,800, and Telefonika around GH₵1,990.

On Qrrier, a nurse returning from New York picks up the request:

  • AirTag 4-pack, bought in the US: $99.00
  • Traveller’s reward, 20% of the item: $19.80
  • Qrrier service fee, 5% of what the traveller is paid: $5.94
  • Total for the shopper: $124.74 ≈ GH₵1,451

👉 Against GH₵1,800 she saves about GH₵349 (19%). 👉 Against GH₵1,990 she saves about GH₵539 (27%).

The box weighs almost nothing, and the nurse pockets $19.80 on top of getting back what she spent. Stack three or four small requests on one trip and that becomes a nice side income.

The part travellers care about most: getting paid on the spot

Older platforms make travellers wait. Grabr, for example, tells travellers that a payout lands within 3 to 15 business days. On Qrrier the flow looks like this:

✅ The shopper funds the order in USDC, a digital dollar, and it sits in escrow. ✅ The traveller buys the item knowing the money is already there. ✅ At the meeting, the shopper inspects and shares a 4-digit release code. ✅ The traveller types it in and is paid instantly.

No more “I will send it on Friday”. The money is in your wallet before you leave the café.

Fast, because it travels with a person

Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting for a truck. Accra to London is an overnight flight, so your parcel can arrive the next morning.

What couriers refuse, travellers can carry

  • Homemade food: jars of shito and a bag of gari for a student in Toronto, or chapati and pilau masala from a Nairobi kitchen to a family in Berlin.
  • Jewellery: Kumasi gold earrings for a bride in Amsterdam, or Maasai beadwork from Nairobi heading to a shop in Atlanta.
  • Documents: transcripts, sealed letters, original certificates.

Sending, not buying? The shipment rule

The shipper and the traveller settle on a price together. The shipper then pays that figure plus 15%, and the traveller takes home 95% of it. Example: carry a 3 kg box Nairobi → Dubai for an agreed $50; the sender pays $57.50 and the traveller collects $47.50.

Where people fly with Qrrier

  • Africa: Accra, Kumasi, Lagos, Abuja, Nairobi, Kampala, Kigali, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa
  • Europe: London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome
  • North & South America: Toronto, New York, Atlanta, Washington DC, São Paulo
  • Gulf & Asia: Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Delhi
  • Oceania: Sydney, Auckland

Staying safe

  • The release code is the only thing that unlocks payment.
  • Travellers may open and inspect any parcel before accepting it, and they should.
  • Forbidden: drugs, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, medication without prescription, anything flammable.
  • Ratings on both sides, plus optional ID checks.
  • You are still responsible for customs declarations at both ends.

Try it

Get the app, list your next flight or post what you need, and agree the terms in the chat before anyone travels.

Prices are approximate and move with exchange rates. Always check customs and airline rules first.
