This supernatural story about Rehab unfolded in Joshua 2:1. Prior to this, in Joshua 1:9 the angel of the lord visited him admonishing him to be strong, be of good courage, and fearless.

Then the angel concluded by telling Joshua that he would give him for possession wheresoever his soles treds on.

I’m not surprised that Joshua concluded with God to go conquer Jericho which was the land of Rahab.

Jericho was known for their wickedness, idolatry and military prowess. They were surrounded by a wall so high and so thick that even two chariots of horses could run on it side by side.

Thus in Joshua 2:1 the Bible recorded that Joshua called two men to go spy the land, they were to spy even the neighboring village and come back with report.

The question is how did Rehab get involved in this spiritual battle that was about to go down between two strong nations?

You can find more answers to this in this video below….

The spies came to Rahab a harlot, and as at that time, Rahab lived on the very wall of Jericho.

They came to her for refuge but what they didn’t know was that God was about to change a harlot to a righteous woman.

When Rahab accepted to aid the two spies little did she know that she was accepting Christ into her life and generation.

If you’re reading this story, and you’re yet to give your life to Christ, please say this word after me: Lord Jesus, I come to you as I am and as a sinner. Lord I know that I have been living my life the way I want, on my own, without your direction and lead. Lord Jesus I am sorry for the way I have been living and I ask that you should forgive me. I asked that you should come into my life and I ready to turn away from my old life and follow you. Be my guide and be my friend. This I ask in your precious name, your name that saves and your name that redeems. Amen.

On that faithful night, news had gone to the king of Jericho that there were two spies from the camp of Israel who had come to spy his land. And Rahab was giving them refuge in her house.

The king sent his men to her house to fetch the spies. But Rahab did something extraordinary and bravery. Instead of her to give up the spies she hid them on her roof top and told the men sent by the king that these spies had left her house before they got to her place.

Her actions were risky but she was willingly to take it because of what she had heard about the God of Israel.

She knew there was something different, the God of Israel acted differently and was known for his supernatural works he had wrought for his people – the children of Israel.

When she finally sent the king’s men away she came to meet the spies and there she made a deal with them.

She had already come know that they were in her land to spy it and their Lord had commanded them to come because he was about to destroy them for their wickedness and idolatry.

Jericho was known for their wickedness and idolatry and Rahab was not ready to get involved in this destruction so she made a deal with these spies.

She told them that they should spare her life and that of her family and the spies agreed to her request. However they gave her their own terms saying that she most bring her family under her roof during the day of this destruction and there they gave a red scarlet for her place on her window.

This scarlet was to act as a reminded of their covenant and make her home not be touched by the destruction that would befall her land.

They left her that night under her direction, and got back to the camp of Israel safely.

Did the story end here, no! The children of Israel under the leadership of Joshua came to the land of Jericho and besiged it.

The instruction of the Lord of host to the children of Israel was simple but strange. They were told by God to go round the land of Jericho for 6 days without making any slight sound and on the seventh day they were to go round the wall 7 times and at the blast of the horn they would give a loud shout. “Joshua 6:16.”

This the children of Israel did in obedience and on the 7th day they went round the wall of Jericho 7 times and as soon as the horn was blasted, Joshua the son of Nun gave them the command to shout.

This was how the wall of Jericho fell down and the children of God fell on the people and destroyed them.

The question is….

What does the story of Rahab teach?

The answers to this question is clear:

1. This story brings to our knowledge of what God loves and hate. God hate sin, idolatry or wickedness so as believers we must stay clear through the help of the Holy Spirit from these things.

2. God loves righteousness. Rahab was found righteous because of her actions and she was given the grace to receive Christ and this changed her corrupt state to a clean state.

3. God is powerful and he is still powerful. So no wall is too big for him to destroy. He did it before and he can do it again.

4. Obedience is principal. Joshua obeyed the command of God and at the end he was an instrument that God used to conquer the evil in Jericho.

Belove I’m happy to have shared this story with you. And I hope it was a blessing to you.
